Vehicle: Porsche Cayenne Hybrid 2020
Equipment: Autel APB300 Programmer
First Impressions
After waiting two months for delivery, the APB300 Programmer finally arrived. Today was the day to put it to the test on a Porsche Cayenne MLB key. The anticipation was high, but as with many new tools, the experience came with a few surprises.
The Pay-Per-Use Dilemma
If you’re planning to use non-Autel keys with the APB300, the logical choice is the Pay-Per-Use (PPU) option. This function is supposed to allow you to read the key data and generate the immobilizer data without being locked into Autel’s proprietary key ecosystem.
Here’s the problem:
The PPU function does not work as expected.
The programmer successfully reads the key data and communicates with the key without any errors. Everything seems to be going smoothly until the very end—when you attempt to retrieve the Immobilizer Data (Immodata). At that final step, the function fails, leaving you stuck without the critical data needed to proceed.

The Workaround That Works
After some trial and error, I found a reliable solution:
Use the “Autel Key” function instead of Pay-Per-Use.
Place an Autel-branded key into the APB300 programmer during the process.
The programmer will read the immobilizer data successfully.
Once you have the Immodata, you can then generate dealer keys on any other key—including third-party options.
Tested and Confirmed
I applied this workaround using a KD OEM Solution PCB (a popular aftermarket key board) and successfully programmed it for the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid 2020.
The vehicle accepted the key without issues, and all functions operated as expected.
Final Thoughts
The APB300 is a powerful tool, but the broken Pay-Per-Use feature is a letdown—especially if you were counting on using it with aftermarket or OEM keys from other suppliers. The good news is that the workaround is straightforward: use an Autel key to pull the Immodata, then switch to your preferred key for the actual programming.
This adds a small extra step, but once you know the trick, it’s reliable and repeatable.
If you’re working with Porsche MLB keys (and likely other platforms), keep this method in mind—it saved my project today.
